Berks County is blessed with abundant natural resources: forested ridges, numerous streams and rivers, fertile topsoil, and abundant rainfall. Agriculture was, and remains, a dominant influence in the County. The Berks County Vision 2020 Comprehensive Plan identified 29.2% (162,199 acres) of Berks County land to be used as agricultural production. In addition, forested lands make up the largest land-cover category in Berks County – 42.6% (236,014 acres).
